Decision Making in Conflicts' Development and their Resolution
Prof. Dan Zakay
Professor (Emeritus), School of Psychology, Tel Aviv University (2 credits)
Decision making processes are in the heart of conflicts' development and resolution. Conflicts might be developed due to the inability of the parties to reach an agreement on crucial issues. While trying to resolve a conflict the parties must go through decision making processes in which alternatives are evaluated and the best alternative for resolving a conflict is being chosen. In the course, a deep analysis of decision making processes, both from a normative and a descriptive perspective, will be conducted. The role of cognitive biases, heuristic thinking and affect in decision making will be discussed. Group decision making, which is typical in conflicts, and obstacles which hinder optimal groups' decision making will be explored.
