Fundamentalism vs. Humanism - the Challenge of Mediation

eligious Fundamentalism has distinguished itself through violence, intolerance to democratic states employing even terrorism as a means to control the society. In fact, it seeks to establish the religious-theological dogma as the political agenda of the global society.


Through the employment of the disciplines of history of religions, theology, cultural studies and semiotics we will analyses the following basic questions: What is Fundamentalism? Why is Fundamentalism militant? What is a religious dogma which seeks to dominate the political agenda of the democratic states? What is the relationship between religious belief and fundamentalism?

 

The seminar investigates various forms of dialogues specifically in the sphere of cultural-theological conflicts, and searches given theories of conflict resolution and rhetoric for the means of a respectful dialogue between fundamentalists and liberals.
