Alexis Karlin is currently a Resident Physician at Children's Hospital of Philadelphia and completed her medical degree at the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai in New York. In conjunction with her studies, Alexis is one of the leaders of the Human Rights and Social Justice (HRSJ) Scholars Program at Mount Sinai, a program that offers a group of first year medical students a comprehensive curriculum in health equity, human rights, and social justice through mentorship, advocacy, and coursework. Alexis also volunteered as the Mammograms Referrals Manager for the East Harlem Health Outreach Program’s student-run free clinic during her first year of medical school.

In order to learn about the challenges involved in non-profit work prior to starting medical school, Alexis received a grant from Harvard to volunteer for Unite for Sight in Ghana over the summer. While studying in Tel Aviv, she also worked with the Physicians for Human Rights (PHR) clinic in Jaffa, Israel, helping to register patients for treatment at the clinic.

Alexis received her M.A. in Conflict Resolution and Mediation with honors from Tel Aviv University in 2013, after graduating Magna Cum Laude from Harvard with a BA in Anthropology. Alexis is hoping to remain in NYC for her residency, and she plans to continue working with classmates and colleagues on issues of inequity and injustice in the field of medicine.
